Editing And Modifying Selection Masks Tutorials

Image
Very rarely is a new selection perfect. Invariably, you have to do some work on it before you can use it. Fortunately, after you have stored the selection in an alpha channel, you can modify it in a number of ways. You can use painting tools, transform commands, or filters to modify the alpha channel and then load it as a selection mask. Using Painting Tools and Filters Because selection masks are composed of grayscale images, you can use only black and white paint, or shades of the two, to modify a mask. When you activate an alpha channel containing a selection that you wish to modify, the foreground and background colors are automatically set to white and black , respectively. However, when you enter Quick Mask mode (Q), the foreground and background colors are set to black and white , respectively. Painting with black in the alpha channel expands the masked areas and contracts the selected areas; painting with white has the opposite effect: masked areas contract and selected a...

Kingston SSD Now V Series 40GB Capacity

Image
Review We are deeply impressed by solid-state drive technology and would love to recommend that you ditch your hard drive immediately. However, there are a few obstacles. You can buy a 2TB hard drive for £135 but have to fork out £195 for an 80GB Intel SSD, up to £300 for a 128GB SSD and £500 for a 256GB SSD. Kingston's 40GB SSD Now V: yes, we know that's bugger all capacity, but bear with us... That’s a huge amount of money for a storage upgrade so Kingston’s new 40GB SSDNow V drive sets the cat among the pigeons. That’s right, 40GB. The new drive comes in two forms. There's a bare drive that costs £70. It works out at £1.75 per gigabyte which is cheap for an SSD, although it still looks pricy compared to a hard drive. The other - more interesting – package is the desktop upgrade kit that comes with a Sata power adaptor, Sata data cable, two rails to mount the SSD in a hard drive bay, and a copy of Acronis True Image HD drive cloning software. If you’re building ...

Elgato EyeTV DTT Deluxe Review Elgato's previous EyeTV DTT Deluxe, which we reviewed in September 2008, was heralded as the world's smallest USB TV tuner. Just over a year on, and the company has launched a second record breaking tuner - one that's about half the size of its predecessor. Elgato's EyeTV DTT Deluxe: ridiculously small And there's another first: this is long-time Mac specialist Elgato's first product to ship with full support for Windows users, specifically Windows 7 drivers for out-of-the-box Media Center compatibility. First, though, the hardware. The new DTT Deluxe takes up less room in the box than the wrapped pair of AAA batteries used to power the Freeview-friendly remote control Elgato ships with the tuner. The tuner is barely bigger than its USB connector and while it's not as tiny as the adaptors that come with many a wireless mouse, it's still very small indeed. The Deluxe is decked out in matte black, though there'...
