Making A Realistic Flag Liquid pixels - wrapping pixels over undulating silk The layer blend modes are an effective way of merging or blending a pattern or graphic with a three-dimensional form. By using the blend modes the flag in this project can be modified to respect the color and tonality of the undulating silk beneath it. The highlights and shadows that give the silk its shape can however be further utilized to wrap or bend the flag so that it obeys the material’s shape and sense of volume. This can be achieved by using the Displace filter in conjunction with a ‘displacement map’. The ‘map’ defines the contours to which the flag must conform. The final effect can be likened to ‘shrink-wrapping’ the flag to the 3-D form of the undulating silk. How it works : The brightness level of each pixel in the map directs the filter to shift the corresponding pixel of the selected layer in a horizontal or vertical plane. The principle on which this technique works is that of ...

As you might already know, Bioshock requires a shader model 3.0 gfx card. While you can still run this game on a shader 2.0 card (such as ATI Radeon 9800), it will leave you with no mouse cursor and a lot of missing textures in the game. Now there were a lot of people with these cards waiting to play this incredible game and since you are reading this article I guess you are one of them too :) So, what do we do ? Well, it appears that Bioshock shaders can easily be replaced and there are good replacements available already. We're not gonna go into details here, if you want more you can go here for more details on this. There you can find the newest updates regarding this. You can also download the shader 2.0 fix v4 (latest as of this writing) here, link at the bottom. Here are some video cards with pixel/vertex shader 2.0: ATI Radeon 9500, 9550, 9600, 9700, 9800, X300, X550, X600, X700, X800, X850 Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, 5500, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950 and here ar...
